Should YOU visit Prague in winter?

  • When is the best time to visit Prague?

Every season is a great season to come to Prague.

But honestly, –

Is there anything better than sitting beside a fireplace on a chilly winter evening? 🔥🍷

Imagine, outside is freezing and you are all cozy, staring at flickering light and listening to cracking sound of burning wood and just relaxing while sipping a hot beverage such as mulled wine.

Then if YOU ever feel like going out and exploring Prague, there are many Christmas markets awaiting YOU!

All of that magical atmosphere wrapped up in a cinnamon spice flavor and roasted chestnuts, topped off with tiny little snowflakes . . and lights of a Christmas tree and of course more mulled wine involved.

Does this sound pretty nice? I think so!

Trust me, a winter time in Prague is “A must experience!”

Actually I am in the Czech Republic right now and am sitting beside the fire place in the middle of nowhere and outside is snowing…..

I have been living in Italy over 6 years and every winter I booked a flight ticket to escape cold. But now, maybe I again reunited with my inner child, with my “mimi me” so I started to enjoy a winter time again.

Watching a snow flakes falling down it almost feels like I have been experiencing this for the first time!

Beautiful and yes I am even willing to freeze my ass out. In the end a cold weather is the best excuse to keep drinking more wine, right?

How is the xmas time in Prague?

Get ready for:
  • a snow ❄️
  • an architecture
  • the largest ancient castle in the world (Prague Castle)
  • the typical cusine which is so perfect for cold days
  • beer,  the best in Europe 🍺
  • Svařák or mulled wine
  • a beautiful xmas market and a giant xmas tree, this time 24 m.
  • day is shorter and the dark comes around 4.30-5 pm

Let it snow, let it snow . .

Prague is a pretty unique city, thats a fact!

There usually is a gap between a reality (mind) and our dreams. But walking through Prague’s city centre almost feels like being in a wonderland and if we add a bit of a snow, we are definitely approaching a fairytale.

I think every tourist who is in search for a bohemian lifestyle must experience a winter time in Prague. The combination of freezing weather and hot mulled wine might enlighten you the Bohemianism of The Unbearable Lighness of Being.

📍My favourite quotes about Prague:

“In Rome the statues, in Paris the paintings and in Prague the buildings suggests that pleasure can be an education” – Caleb Crain

“Prague never lets you go… this dear little mother has sharp claws” – Frank Kafka

“It is easy to fall in love among the winding cobblestone streets and snow – covered castles of Prague , but is it a good idea?” – Dana Newman

“If European cities were a necklace, Prague would be a diamond among the pearls”

Where to find the best Christmas Markets:

There are many Christmas markets all over Prague.

But of course the most beautiful is on Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti).

Than you can find a market on Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti).

📍 My recommendation:

Take a subway from city centre (green line A) and get from Museum station to the station Jiriho z Podebrad or Namesti Miru.

  • Jiriho z Podebrad square
  • Namesti Square (Namesti Miru)

These 2 squares are so close to each (max 10 min walk between Jiriho z Podebrad to Namesti Miru).

These markets are less touristic and typical for expats living in Prague, hipsters and locals as well.

YOU can find many arty cafes (Italian, French) around that squares so if you freezing, get warm in a cozy cafe.

Cheaper flights & Accommodation:

During the summer peakJuly – August, Prague can get very crowded and it can be overwhelming.

So be smart by traveling anywhere in the off-season, you can safe money on airfare and on accommodation, avoid the crowds and also enjoy the Christmas markets.

🔴 OFF Season – Safe money
 🔴 Less crowded

Check out these websites for best deals:

and then:

I found some great deals during the winter time, check it out as well, YOU might be surprise.

BEST deals are from November till February. (March deals aren’t bad as well)

Also Vienna is 4 hours by a train from Prague, so YOU might even connect these 2 cities in 1 trip.

Czech Cuisine:

Czech traditional food is mostly really heavy, so winter is the best time to enjoy it!

I would recommend to order a soup to warm up your tummy and then a plate of  GULAS, a tender meat, vegetables and rich gravy. Trust me, YOU never can go wrong with that.

A Typical Local drink:

🔴 Svarak – mulled wine
🔴 Beer
🔴 Becherovka
🔴 Slivovice

The mulled wine is a popular tradition in the Czech Republic during a winter time.

YOU can get it basically everywhere, even on the Christmas markets, that it is easier to walk in a freezing cold.

If it doesn’t help to keep you warm, try Becherovka or Slivovice.

  • Becherovka

Becherovka is a herbal bitters alcohol drink, basically digestive aid, this might be helpful for you to know especially after some really heavy traditional Czech meal. But I also drink it while having first flu symptoms. Definitely YOU must taste this beverage.

  • Slivovice

A typical fruit brandy made from plums. Again helps a lot with 1st signs of flu.

What are YOU waiting for? 😍

With LOVE,

Zuzi
